But at the same time there are images, symbols and colours so recognisable that they create a strong sense of admiration in the viewer. Viotech (which to most people may seem like a simple purple) has managed to create its own identity in almost twenty years of history, thanks to a series of artists and sneakers that have exalted its characteristics. Below, the main appearances of the colorway in the Nike universe.
2001 - Nike Dunk Low Pro B ‘Rainbow’ co.jp
The first appearance of Viotech dates back to 2001. In a pre-internet era in which region-exclusive releases were the order of the day, in Japan the first colors appeared to write the story of Nike SB, founded only a year later. The Nike Dunk Low Pro B 'Rainbow' co.jp do not immediately receive the appreciation they would have obtained in the future, but the time, the uniqueness of the color and the purple on the sole and suede upper have made them the icons of the division founded by Sandy Bodecker.
2002 - atmos x Nike Air Max 1
Nike's second collaboration with the Japanese brand also represents Viotech's second appearance on a swooshed sneaker. Inspired by the Safari version released the previous year, the atmos x Air Max 1 'Viotech' is an istant success even if the purple color is presented only on the big swoosh.
2002 - Nike Air Trainer III
In 2002, Viotech appeared for the first time on sneakers designed specifically for sport. The fame of the Nike Air Trainer III derives not directly from the model itself, but from those who wore them. Bo Jackson, John McEnroe and Andre Agassi are just some of the athletes who have dressed in official competitions the sneaker designed by Tinker Hatfield.
2003 - atmos x Nike Air Max 95
On the wave of success of the Air Max 1 releases a year earlier, atmos collaborates again with Nike. This time the goal is different: to make Air Max comes back into fashion at a time when the world of sneakers is governed by basketball shoes. In collaboration with ACG designer Sergio Lozano, Hirofumi Kojima designs a new Air Max 95 with the same colour palette as the previous year's Air Max 1. The atmos x Air Max 95 in fact have little and nothing of Viotech, except for the fabric of the eyelets and the air unit, but that's enough to guarantee them access to the Olympus of the sneakers.
2013 - Nike Dunk SB Low ‘Rainbow’
As stated before, the success of the 2001 Nike Dunk Low Pro B 'Rainbow' co.jp came with time, so as to allow a new release twelve years later under the name of Nike SB. The model remains practically unchanged, except for the pull tab, the gold on the upper and harder saturation, due in part to advancement of Nike's manifacturing technologies.
2018 - Aleali May x Air Jordan 1
Aleali May represents, after Va$htie Kola, the second woman to have collaborated directly on a Jordan. And it is no coincidence that the most iconic silhouette of the brand was chosen for the occasion. The colorway instead is inspired by the Nike Dunk Low Pro B 'Rainbow' co.jp as well, with a touch of extra femininity and softer shades.
2019 - Nike Air Max 90 ‘Viotech 2.0’
2019 seems to be once again the year of Viotech. With slightly modified shades, the colorway is back in a 2.0 version on the Air Max 90 whose suede upper shows Lucid Green, Game Royal and yellow accents.
